Project Summary:

Two separate trials were completed with 10 lights mounted 1.5 meters apart on the fishing line. In the first trial, Pisces was pointing towards the trawl mouth and in the second trial,  away from it. A total of 6 hauls were completed for each trial.

Outcome:

  • 77% reduction in undersized haddock when Pisces were pointing upwards and towards the trawl mouth
  • A small reduction in whiting catches occurred when the fishing line was illuminated
  • Haddock displayed a negative reaction to Pisces lights
